Learn a New Way to Work Wonderful, Warm Footwear | View Online Make Yourself at Home with Craftsy: Explore Learn a New Way to Work Wonderful, Warm Footwear Ankle deep in sock yarn? Start working your way out, from the toe up! Hi, I'm knitting author, designer and instructor Susan B. Anderson, and making knit socks is one of my favorite things. Join me for my online Craftsy class My First Toe–Up Socks, and I'll help you become a footwear knitting extraordinaire. In this class, you'll learn the basic skills for making beautiful, functional toe–up socks. I'll begin with tips for picking supplies and working with circular needles. Then, you'll find out how to check gauge, customize fit, add a heel and make comfortable cuffs. Since you can work through each lesson at your own pace, you only move on to the next technique when you're ready. To kick things off, I'll begin by explaining the benefits of making toe–up socks, and we'll look at the supplies you should have on hand. You'll learn the different components of a knitted sock and how to make them work with your unique measurements, for a comfortable, cohesive result. Once you know the fundamentals, we'll cover how to select the perfect pattern, yarn and size. You'll see how to start your socks with an invisible seam using Judy's Magic Cast–On, before working in the round with both double–pointed and magic loop needles so you become comfortable using both types. Take the next step in your footwear journey by working the toe increase. I'll help you create an even increase and check your gauge to make sure your socks are the correct size. To ensure you have a comfortable fit, you'll also see how to choose the right length for your sock foot. Unsure how you feel about working the heel? You won't think twice after learning how to include an afterthought heel. I'll explain how this fun placeholder is made and share the best yarns to use for it. Plus, I'll give you tips for using self–striping yarn to create eye–catching projects! Continue working your way up to a fabulous final result with the sock leg. I'll show you how to customize this section with cuffs and share ways to achieve a comfortable, stable fit. For footwear you'll love to slip on, you'll also learn my simple, stretchy bind–off. After you tie off the top stitch, don't forget about your heel! I'll walk you step by step through removing the placeholder yarn, picking up stitches and working the heel decreases. If you join me in My First Toe–Up Socks, I'll also help you finish your socks in style using the invisible seam Kitchener stitch, weaving and blocking. I taught myself to knit when I was nineteen using a pamphlet from a local crafts store. Since then, my love for knitting has developed into a career as a designer, author and instructor. You may recognize me from my other Craftsy classes, Wee Ones and The (Not So) Itty–Bitty Giraffe, or my knitting books, including Itty–Bitty Hats and Topsy Turvy Inside–Out Knit Toys. When I'm not designing patterns or running my blog, I travel around the United States teaching and meeting fellow knitters. I enjoy connecting with others who are passionate about knitting, which is why Craftsy classes are so wonderful. These online video lessons make it easy to learn, no matter where you are. Plus, watch the lessons at your own pace and revisit them whenever your schedule allows. Take the next step in building your knitting skills!
