Below you will find important dates and information for the opening of the 2012-2013 school year:  Wednesday, September 4 th is the first day of school! Enclosed you will find a blue dismissal form. Each student must bring a completed blue dismissal form on the first day of school!  Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for the breakfast program in the elementary cafeteria. Children who walk or are transported by parents, and who are not participating in the breakfast program, should not arrive before 7:40 a.m. The instructional day begins at 8:05 a.m. The tardy time is 8:05 a.m.; students who arrive after this time will be tardy. Students in grades PreK-1 will be dismissed at 2:50 p.m.; students in grades 2-6 will be dismissed at 2:53 p.m.  The student drop off/pick up locations at the beginning and end of the school day are located on the enclosed traffic flow map. When dropping off students, parents need to follow the flow of traffic map. Follow the drop off/pick up signs off West Main Street. Students should be dropped off in the loading/unloading zone behind the elementary cafeteria, on the passenger side only for grades PreK-4 and 5-8 on the road between the tennis courts and the entrance labeled middle school. There is no parking allowed in this drive behind the elementary school or along the road between the tennis courts and the entrance labeled middle school; if you need to park and escort your child into the school, please come to the main entrance of Sidney Elementary where there is ample visitor parking.  Classroom Assignments: Kindergarten through six grade students' classroom assignment for the school year are enclosed in this mailing.  It is important for the Main Office to have accurate directory information. This includes your address, telephone number, parents' work telephone numbers, local emergency contact people and their telephone numbers, etc. Please remember to keep the office up-to-date with any changes!  Please remember to send a note to your child's teacher whenever your child will not go home in the usual way. We cannot allow your child to go home in a different manner unless we have a note from you. Without such a note it can be an upsetting experience for all of us until the situation is straightened out. In an emergency a telephone call can be made, but a note is the best way to keep us in touch with your child's after school plans.  Attendance: Children are expected to be in school unless they are ill or have an appointment that cannot be scheduled at any other time. If your child will not be in school or will be late, please call the school nurse before 8:30 a.m. Grades PreK-4 at 561-7705 and Grades 5 & 6 at 561-7706. You may leave a message on their voicemail. Your child will need to bring a written excuse upon returning to school, stating the specific reason for the absence. Enclosed is a pink health and general information annual update sheet. Please fill this out and return it by Monday, September 9 th .  Students who need medication during the school day must bring the medication (in the original container) to the Nurse's Office with a signed consent from the parent and doctor. This includes all over-the-counter medications.  You will soon be receiving the district calendar which contains much information. Included in the calendar are the September breakfast and lunch menus and an application for free and reduced lunch. Each school year a new lunch application must be completed if applying for free or reduced lunch.
